Make It Yours — A Step-by-Step Guide

Personalizing leather is a ritual. With your Atelier Signature DIY kit, you have everything you need to emboss initials, monograms, or custom logos onto premium leather goods — at home, at your own pace, with your own signature touch.

Step 1 — Prepare Your Leather

Before you begin, ensure your leather surface is clean, dry, and at room temperature. Avoid embossing on wet or recently conditioned leather, as moisture can affect the foil adhesion and stamp impression.

  • Wipe the surface gently with a dry lint-free cloth
  • Place the leather piece on a firm, flat surface
  • Allow at least 30 minutes after any conditioning treatment before embossing

Step 2 — Choose Your Monogram or Logo

Select the stamps that represent your signature. Our kits include a full alphabet set, punctuation marks, and decorative symbols. For custom logo stamping, use the logo plate included in the Signature Kit.

  • Arrange your chosen stamps in the stamp holder before pressing
  • Test your layout on the practice leather piece included in your kit
  • For logos: align the custom plate carefully using the alignment guides

Step 3 — Select & Position Your Foil

Choose between soft gold or brushed silver foil for your finish. Cut a piece of foil slightly larger than your stamp area and place it face-up over the leather surface where you wish to emboss.

  • Gold foil — warm, classic, ideal for tan and cognac leathers
  • Silver foil — cool, modern, beautiful on dark or black leather
  • Secure the foil lightly with the positioning tape provided

Step 4 — Heat & Press

This is the moment of signature. Using the embossing tool included in your kit, apply firm, even pressure for 8–12 seconds. The heat activates the foil and transfers your design permanently into the leather.

  • Set the embossing tool to the recommended temperature (indicated on the tool)
  • Press straight down — do not rock or slide the stamp
  • Hold for the full duration, then lift cleanly in one motion
  • Allow 60 seconds to cool before peeling the foil

Step 5 — Finish & Reveal

Peel back the foil slowly from one corner to reveal your embossed design. If any area is incomplete, you may re-press once the leather has fully cooled. Finish by buffing the embossed area gently with the soft cloth provided.

  • Peel foil at a low angle for the cleanest release
  • Buff lightly in circular motions to enhance the shine
  • Apply a small amount of leather conditioner around (not on) the embossed area to nourish the surrounding leather
